IDEF 2025: Turkey Showcases Unmanned Systems, Radar, and Military EVs on Opening Day
The IDEF 2025 international defense exhibition launched in Istanbul with a powerful display of innovation, as Turkey’s defense industry unveiled a wave of new technologies. From advanced unmanned systems and next-gen radar to electric military vehicles, the opening day spotlighted how Turkey is positioning itself as a major global defense player.
Held biennially, IDEF (International Defence Industry Fair) is one of the largest defense expos in the region. In 2025, the host nation made full use of the platform to debut key capabilities developed by its leading firms, including Aselsan, Roketsan, Baykar, and Otokar. The showcased technologies reflect a strategic focus on autonomy, sustainability, and integrated battlefield awareness.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground systems dominated the floor, many designed for ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) and tactical strike missions. Complementing these systems were new radar platforms equipped with AI-assisted target recognition, enabling faster response and reduced operator load.
One of the standout innovations was Turkey’s push into electrified military mobility, with new armored electric vehicles aimed at reducing heat signatures and improving logistical efficiency. These EVs are designed for both reconnaissance and silent operations, fitting into broader NATO-aligned modernization efforts.
Turkey’s growing emphasis on defense self-sufficiency and export-ready platforms was evident throughout IDEF 2025. With global demand rising for unmanned systems and counter-drone solutions, Turkey is aiming not just to meet domestic needs but to expand its presence in international markets.
As IDEF 2025 continues, the event promises further announcements, collaborations, and tech reveals; cementing its place as a critical node in the future of global defense innovation.
