Punjab Government’s Free Assistive Devices & Wheelchair Program – Who Can Apply & How?

Living with a disability can be challenging, but the Punjab Government is making life easier for individuals with mobility impairments by providing free assistive devices and wheelchairs. This initiative ensures that those in need have access to essential mobility aids, improving their independence and quality of life.

What Does the Program Offer?

The Assistive Devices and Wheelchair Program provides:

  • Wheelchairs
    • Manual Active Use Wheelchairs – For daily mobility needs.
    • Pediatric Manual Wheelchairs – Designed for children.
    • Electric/Motorized Wheelchairs – For those unable to use manual ones.
  • Hearing Aids
    • Digital Hearing Aids (includes batteries and molds).

Who is Eligible?

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Punjab Resident – Only residents of Punjab, Pakistan can apply.
  • Valid CNIC or B-Form – For minors or individuals with intellectual disabilities, their guardian’s CNIC is required.
  • Disability Assessment Certificate – Issued by the Disability Assessment Board.
  • Medical Recommendations – A specialized doctor’s assessment is needed:
    • Hearing Aids: Requires a recommendation from an ENT Specialist at a DHQ or Teaching Hospital
    • Wheelchairs, Prosthetics, or Orthotics: Requires approval from an Orthopedic Specialist at a DHQ or Teaching Hospital

Additional Conditions for Wheelchairs.

For Manual Wheelchairs:

  • Age 3 years or older.
  • Weight below 150 kg.
  • Diagnosed with paraplegia (power less than 2/5).
  • Must have functional upper limbs (power greater than 3/5).
  • Patients with joint contractures or osteoarthritis may also qualify.

For Electric/Motorized Wheelchairs:

  • Individuals with paralysis or weakness in all four limbs.
  • Upper limb power must be between 2/5 and 3/5.
  • Proof of work or education mobility is required.

  • Scheduled Distribution: Applicants will be informed via SMS about their appointment date and location.

    • Visit the Social Welfare office.
