Pakistan’s First Government Autism School: A Beacon of Hope for Special Children.
In a groundbreaking step for special education, Punjab is set to open Pakistan’s first government-run autism school in Lahore. This initiative aims to provide free treatment and quality education for children with autism, offering relief to families facing financial challenges. The school is expected to be completed within a year.
Transforming Special Education in Punjab.
Punjab’s government is dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment by:
- Establishing 10 autism units across various special education institutions.
- Upgrading 35 special education schools to improve accessibility and learning standards.
- Developing 28 institutions into centers of excellence for special education.
- Designing a specialized curriculum up to Grade 5, which now includes a translated version of the Holy Quran for hearing-impaired students.
Empowering Special Students with Support & Opportunities
- Punjab is ensuring that differently-abled children receive the support they need to thrive. So far, the government has distributed 9,206 assistive devices, including:
- 7,702 hearing aids to enhance communication.
- 360 wheelchairs for mobility assistance.
- 300 walkers & 344 crutches for physical support.
- 500 white canes to aid visually impaired students.

Beyond education, Punjab is focused on employment and integration.
- 900 special students have been registered in job programs, and 25 have already secured employment.
- A job fair is being planned to connect differently-abled individuals with private sector opportunities.
- 14 students have graduated from the Special Education Vocational Matriculation Program.
- 586 special education students have successfully transitioned into regular schools.

Modernizing Special Education with Technology & Infrastructure.
- 8 new special school buildings have been completed, with 9 more approved for construction.
- A School Information System and a smart monitoring app are in development to improve oversight.
- A new screening tool for slow learners has been introduced to help children get the support they need.
- Punjab is also set to host its first-ever grand sports gala for special students.
